|on Steampunk fashion and livejournal.
ok that is it, I am done with steampunk fashion's livejournal page, I will not be returning again ever. Any one who either still goes over there, or knows anyone going there, that wants to see the stuff I posted over there, feel free to let them know I am now over here. For those wondering why, it is a combination of things, If I find the message too from one particular individual who runs the site, I will be posting it publicly here, as they asked for a free pair of goggles, and when I let them know I can not afford to give away things, suddenly it started taking me prodding them about my posts there, to get any response, which if there was an auction in it, became a moot point, by that time, and eventually they just stopped adding my posts to the journal all together.
Free goggles ? I mean come on, you have a livejournal page, you are not publishing some big time newspaper, or magazine. So I am done there, Tired of people expecting me to give my hard work for free to them, period.

|leather masks & a brass colored leather tentacles/horns
so I posted about the coloration of leather with a brass looking surface on brass goggles. *or rather putting a brass coloration on the surface of leather parts*
as I am considering making some more specifically steampunk themed masks out of leather.
(I will also be posting a how to on how I did the coloration on the horn/tentacle, on this thread, if there is any interest)
I have a few masks up on ebay right now for those who might be looking
*obligatory pic of them*

I have three leather masks up on ebay AND I have a PDF pattern on my site for the construction of your very own respirator or half face gasmask.

|leather gasmask tutorial, and ebay links for mardigras masks made of leather :D
so it has come to my attention that finding a how to or instructional (instructable) on how to make something can be a challenge. thus I came up with this idea to make something more visually based for finding them.
here is a link to my idea so far.click to go to my example page
on this project(seen above) if you have any input or locations of good DIY for me to link to or make a mirror of to host them so others can benefit from being able to find them feel free to send them to me or post them here. I can also be found on the toysoldiersunite site and the brass goggles forum under the name of The Architect.
now on to the gas mask tutorial progress
just pictures of progress and to get some input on the leather gas mask or flight respirator project.
once done I will use the design to make one of softer leather and see how the design would have to be adjusted. then I should have two PDF patterns. One for sculpted mask leather, and one for softer leather or vinyl or even canvas.(for those opposed to using animal products in their work)
the brass part show was just a test and I will have pictures of the new finalized design I am using on this mask. when done I should be able to offer 3 designs of these "connectors" I will call them for now. one will have the feet shown here on both sides, one with just one side having them and the last will have no feet and the holes for attaching them will be on the curved surface between the fluting. any diameter will be possible and the part that is split will have two flanges with a hole in each to allow a screw and nut to clamp down to apply pressure to a hose, a metal grate or a lens if desired.
Images and other links to leather masks under the cut.( Read more...Collapse )
feel free to visit my site and use the contact form to get in touch with me on anything at all. I answer all messages I get from there.

|help me make extinction a reality and cross post this everywhere!
taking everyone's advice into account I chose to go with the floral design,
also since this pair was fabricated during the run of goggles, they will be at a discount of $10 off the regular prices I use.
If no one is wanting them then I will sell them off like the last pairs on eBay.
Not to worried about that as on eBay the other auctions ended with the buy it now from 30 minutes to 10 minutes of being listed, however I will not be offering the eBayers the discount I am offering here.
It was people here that supported my doing a run and therefor responsible for my being able to cut the prices a bit. so I am only sharing that price break with you and the people of www.toysoldiersunite.com and the forums over at brassgoggles.co.uk
ok pictures (also the engraving is freshly polished in these pictures so if you want them and want the aging I used in the previous pictures just let me know. there will be no extra charge.)also note they are fitted with grey (look black when worn) lexan (polycarbonate or other wise known as bullet proof and shatter proof with 100%UV light blockage no matter what the type of UV light it is)
pictures are under the cut of course.( Read more...Collapse )

|goggle rune for those who might be intested and needing some ideas on lens sizes
I am looking at doing a run of goggles as I am going to have some time off from the drudgery of real life (see vacation) and I find the most relaxing thing is working on a project. so what I am looking for here would be what everyone thinks would be the best size to focus on for a run of identical units. If I do this project I would number them and put a date on each.
no specializing would be done for this run though. just standard brass, aluminum, or copper body. all the same though since they are solid metal one could easily customize them for themselves. I am looking at ordering some liver of sulphur and figuring out how that is done too, so I could include a small quantity with the goggles being sent out to those who want to darken them with a patina. and of course a bit of a how to as well.
an obligatory picture is under the cut as well as a lot more information for those wanting to know more.( Read more...Collapse )

and rest behind the cut( Read more...Collapse )
These are the MK 1.75 model and feature a slightly bigger lens than the models we offered before so they are more like a pair of willson goggles however not quite as big of a lens so they give one a more serious look and less cartoonish puppydog look. a nice compromise between the almost villainous look of the smaller lenses we normally offer and the over sized 2 inch lenses most goggles feature. Definitely a heroes or heroin model though a more well to do individual both incredibly rugged for even the harshest work conditions yet elegant enough for any ball room function!
